Welcome to Kohia Terrace School
Kohia Terrace School is a full primary offering quality learning opportunities for Year 1 to Year 8 students. We are immensely proud of our school and the learning programmes that are delivered. Our staff are committed to meeting the needs of each student academically, soically and emotionally; we are a highly inclusive school. Our school values of Care and Respect, Lead with Integrity and Persevere to Achieve and alive in the school on a daily basis.
I am very proud to lead a group of highly capable and professional staff - teachers, support staff and administative staff. We support each other and work well as a team. Our recent ERO review particualry noted the excellence of our leadership team. It is a pleasure to come to work each day.
Our students thrive and achieve well. We offer an highly regarded student leadership programme which includes training students in Year 6 - 8 as student coaches. The mana and opportuity to support younger students is valued by students, whanau and staff. Please read our recent ERO review for more detail.
We are fortunate to have amazing parent help and involvement in the school at both the governance and community level. Our PTA are eager to organise community events to strengthen school spirits whilst, at times, supporting the school through various fundraising events.
A little about me
It has been an honour to be the leader of Kohia Terrace School since 2008. Prior to this I taught at Arahoe School before moving into leadership roles, ending my 18 years at the school as Vice Principal. I have also taught in South Auckland, a rural school in Taranaki, Warkworth and Hawkes Bay. My teaching career was predominately in the junior area of the school with curriculum strengths in literacy, maths, science and Information & Communication Technologies (ICT). My masters thesis was on the leadership of ICT integration.
I am passionate about education and making a difference for students. I regularly teach in classrooms throughout the school to ensure I get to know all the students, but it is also one of my favourite times of the week.
In 2019 I gained my coaching accreditation and actively 'coach' staff and students. Our student coaching programme has been a recent addition to our student leadership programme.
